Sincona sale 95, lot 4706

This specimen was lot 4706 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 1,200 CHF (about US$1,663 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Stadt und Kanton, 20 Schilling (Halbgulden) 1774, Zürich. Äusserst seltene Erhaltung. FDC. Prachtexemplar. (Switzerland, canton of Zürich, twenty schilling or half gulden of 1774, Zürich mint. Extremely rare condition, Mint State, Cabinet piece.)"

This type was struck 1774, 1776 and 1779-80 and is fairly affordable in circulated condition. Twenty schillings was half a gulden or a quarter thaler.
