Zurich (1621) 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 3625 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 2,600 CHF (about US$3,436 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Stadt und Kanton, Halbtaler o. J. (um 1622), Zürich. Sehr selten. Sehr schön. Derselbe Rückseitenstempel wurde auch bei Halbtalern mit der Jahreszahl 1622 verwendet (Hürlimann 657). (Switzerland, canton of Zürich, undated half thaler, circa 1622, Zürich mint. The same reverse die was used on the 1622 half thaler. Very rare, Very fine.)"
The SCWC listed for 1622 and undated, with the undated versions being very rare. It is possible that it was actually struck in 1622 as stated by the auctioneers.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 14.24 g.
