Wurzburg 1786 goldgulden Fr-3732
This specimen was lot 1117 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 2,700 CHF (about US$3,568 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Würzburg, Bistum, Franz Ludwig von Erthal, 1779-1795. Goldgulden 1786, Würzburg. Neujahrsgoldgulden. NGC MS62. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (Germany, bishopric of Würzburg, Francis Louis of Erthal, 1779-95, goldgulden of 1786, Wurzburg mint, for the New Year. Magnificent condition, uncirculated.)"
While ducats from Wurzburg were the standard 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, the goldgulden were only 3.25 g, .770 fine. This type was also struck in 1791 and 1794. The territory was annexed to Bavaria in 1803.
