Wurzburg 1780-Rf ducat Fr-3734
This specimen was lot 2186 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €3,000 (about US$4,175 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"WÜRZBURG, BISTUM, Franz Ludwig von Erthal, 1779-1795. Dukat 1780, Würzburg. GOLD. Prachtexemplar. Fast Stempelglanz. (Germany, bishopric of Würzburg, Francis Louis of Erthal, 1779-95, ducat of 1780, Wurzburg mint. Choice example, about extremely fine.)"
This ducat was struck for four years (1780-83) yet remains rare. This prelate also struck some rare goldgulden (KM 414, KM 428, KM 429). His successor, Georg Karl von Fechenbach, was the last prince, as the state was partitioned in 1802, most of it going to Bavaria.
