Wurzburg 1725-N 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 417 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 1,200 CHF (about US$1,829 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Würzburg, Bistum, Christoph Franz von Hutten, 1724-1729. 1/2 Taler 1725, Würzburg. Selten. Das durch NGC höchstbewertete Exemplar. (Germany, bishopric of Würzburg, Christopher Francis of Hutten, 1724-29, half thaler of 1725, Würzburg mint. Rare. NGC MS63, Finest certified by NGC.)"
This type was struck 1725 only and is listed as very scarce. Christoph Franz von Hutten ruled his diocese 1724-29. Unlike his predecessor or his successor, he was not simultaneously bishop of Bamberg. The territory was annexed to Bavaria in 1803.
