Künker sale 406, lot 4081

This specimen was lot 4081 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,115 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"WÜRZBURG, BISTUM, Unter schwedischer Besatzung. Gustav II. Adolf von Schweden, 1631-1632. Dukat 1632, Würzburg. Variante mit GOT : VA : REX . am Ende der Vorderseitenumschrift und mit normalem G im Wahlspruch der Rückseite. GOLD. Fast sehr schön. (bishopric of Würzburg, Swedish occupation, Gustavus Adolphus, 1631-32, ducat of 1632, Würzburg mint, variety with "GOT : VA : REX" in the obverse legend. About very fine.)"

This expensive type was accompanied by a double thaler and a single thaler. The Swedish king was killed in battle in 1632 and we don't know if this example was struck before or after that event. The type was struck 1631-32.
