This specimen was lot 1008 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "WORMS: Free City, AR thaler, 1623, a very attractive coin with original toning, a few very light scratches on the reverse, F-VF, ex Joe Sedillot Collection." This very rare type was accompanied by a double thaler. Worms neighbored Pfalz but was never part of it, being a free city. It was destroyed by the French in 1689 and never recovered its former importance. It was annexed to France 1801-15 but then passed to Hesse-Darmstadt.
