Sincona Auction 103, lot 412
the city and bishopric of Worms in 1648, from Putzger's 1905 atlas

This specimen was lot 412 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Worms, Taler 1624, Worms. Sehr schön. Kleine Schrötlingsfehler. (Germany, city of Worms, thaler of 1624. Very Fine, Minor flan flaws.)"

This very rare type was accompanied by a quarter thaler. Worms neighbored Pfalz but was never part of it, being a free city. It was destroyed by the French in 1689 and never recovered its former importance. It was annexed to France 1801-15 but then passed to Hesse-Darmstadt. The initials "HIA" are in a monogram to the right of the crown.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, 41 mm diameter, this specimen 28.75 g.

Catalog reference: KM 79, Joseph 337a, Dav-5961.
