Worms 1617 dicken KM-37
This specimen was lot 1395 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €160 (about US$216 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"WORMS, STADT, Dicken 1617. Attraktives, sehr schönes Exemplar. Exemplar der Slg. Bernhard Terletzki. Erworben im März 2008 von Hermann Löchte, Rheine. (Germany, city of Worms, dicken of 1617. Attractive very fine example.)"
This scarce type is recorded for 1614-20. The SCWC notes it as equal to a teston, one-third of a thaler, but other sources hint that it was equal to one-third of a gulden. Without the weight, we cannot be sure. Worms neighbored Pfalz but was never part of it, being a free city. It was destroyed by the French in 1689 and never recovered its former importance. It was annexed to France 1801-15 but then passed to Hesse-Darmstadt.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
