Westfriesland 1765 gulden
This specimen was lot 1527 in Jean Elsen sale 121 (Brussels, June 2014), where it sold for €60 (about US$96 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NEDERLAND, WEST-FRIESLAND, AR Nederlandse 1 gulden, 1765, Droit: Staande maagd met speer en vrijheidshoed. Revers: Gekroond generaliteitswapen. Dubbelslag op vz. Prachtig. (Netherlands, province of Westfriesland, silver gulden of 1765. Obverse: Dutch maid stands with spear and Bible; reverse: crowned arms of the generality. Double struck on obverse, extremely fine.)"
This type was struck throughout the eighteenth century with various mintmarks until 1794. This subtype has a cabled edge and was struck 1762-67, 1778, 1785, 1791-94.
