Westfriesland 1765 ducaton Dav-1834
This specimen was lot 23406 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Las Vegas, August 2020), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. West Friesland. Ducaton, 1765/62. PCGS EF-45 Gold Shield. A richly toned example with a bold central strike displaying signs of handling consistent for the grade. Due to an uneven strike small portions of the legend are bit flat. A presentable example sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters. From the BKingdom Collection." Westfriesland struck this denomination throughout the eighteenth century until 1793. This was the largest silver coin and many subtypes exist. This one was struck 1759-62, 1765-74 and is common. The 1765/62 overdate shown here is not accorded a premium in the SCWC.
