Westfriesland 1761 ducat Fr-295
This specimen was lot 1506 in Jean Elsen sale 161 (Brussels, March 2025), where it sold for €750 (about US$977 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NEDERLAND, WEST-FRIESLAND, AR dukaat met de ridder, 1761. Vz/ Staande ridder r. met zwaard en pijlenbundel. Mmt. haringbuis. Kz/ Tekst in versierd vierkant. Vijlsporen aan de rand. (Netherlands, province of Westfriesland, gold ducat of the knight of 1761. Obverse: standing knight with sword and bundle of arrows; reverse: five line inscription on tablet. Mount mark on the edge, Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"
This type was struck with interruptions 1683-1705, 1712-37, 1743, 1748-62, 1765, 1776-80. The early type ducats were hammered; later issues of the eighteenth century, such as this one, were milled. A reeded edge was added in 1756.
