Künker sale 406, lot 3593

This specimen was lot 3593 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabruck, March 2024), where it sold for €2,200 (about US$2,887 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NIEDERLANDE, WESTFRIESLAND, Provinz. 14 Gulden (Goldener Reiter) 1750. Münzzeichen Hahn. GOLD. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Hübsche Goldpatina, vorzüglich +. (Netherlands, province of Westfriesland, 14 gulden or golden rider of 1750, rooster mintmark. Scarce in this quality, handsome patina, choice extremely fine.)"

This expensive type is listed for 1749-51 and 1760-63. It was the largest gold coin regularly issued in the United Provinces. Despite the short span of issue, all seven of the United Provinces issued this type and it remained popular for a long time.
