Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 43057

This specimen was lot 43057 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. West Friesland. Lion Daalder, 1629. NGC MS-61." Lion daalders were struck in most of the provinces that today make up the Netherlands. This type is recorded in the SCWC for Westfriesland for 1604-1713 with various mintmarks. This subtype was struck 1606-30 and 1650. Most dates are common but choice specimens are rare as striking quality was low.
