Sincona sale 63, lot 1016
Weissenburg in 1648, between Hagenau and Landau

This specimen was lot 1016 in Sincona sale 63 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 310 CHF (about US$389 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE | Weissenburg / Wissembourg | Stadt, 12 Kreuzer 1626. Mit dem Titel Ferdinands II. Vorzüglich. Kleines Zainende und poröser Schrötling. (city of Weissenburg, twelve kreuzer of 1626, in the name of Ferdinand II. Extremely fine, Minor edge clip and small flan defects.)"

Weissenburg is now an extremely obscure locale in French Alsace. The SCWC records three different schrechenberger for 1626: KM 13, with obverse legend "MON·NOV·IMP·CIV·WEISENBVR", struck 1616-26; KM 14, with obverse legend "+ WEISSENBVRG*AM*RHEIN:" struck 1626; and KM 21, "+ WEISEMBVRG*AM*RHEIN:" struck 1626 and 1628. This one is the second.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: billon, this specimen 4.37 g.

Catalog reference: KM 14, Engel/Lehr 32.
