Hagenau 1669 12 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 1102 in Jean Elsen sale 138 (Brussels, September 2018), where it sold for €190 (about US$264 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANCE, HAGUENAU, Ville, AR 12 Kreuzer, 1669. Au titre de Léopold Ier. D/ Ecu de la ville. R/ Aigle impériale couronnée. presque Très Beau. (Germany, city of Hagenau, silver twelve kreuzer of 1669, struck in the name of Leopold I. Obverse: city arms; reverse: crowned imperial eagle. about very fine.)"
Hagenau was an imperial free city in Alsace near Strasbourg. It was occupied by France in 1648 and annexed in 1679. The town also struck 1, 2, 3, 4, 18, 30 and 60 kreuzer. One thaler = 90 kreuzer.
