Venice (1665-67)-GR scudo Dav-4263
This specimen was lot 874 in cgb.fr Internet Auction (Paris, April 2023) where it sold for 530 EUR (about US$599 including buyer's fees). The lot description noted,
"ITALY - VENICE - DOMENICO CONTARINI (104e Doge), Scudo de 140 Soldi, n.d., R1. Obverse: DOMINIC. CONTAR. DVX. VENETV / G. R, Croix fleuronnée; Reverse: SANCTVS. MARCVS. VENET., Écu de Venise (lion nimbé et ailé) orné de cuirs ; à l'exergue *140*. AU. (Italy, republic of Venice, Domenico Contarini, 104th doge, undated scudo of 140 soldi. Obverse: floriate cross; reverse: arms of Venice (nimbate and winged lion) in ornate shield, value below. About uncirculated.)"
This is one of the more common scudi of the seventeenth century, being known with mintmasters IM, BB, GD, DG, MM, GR (shown here), AD, LP, MV, GL and PZ.
