Steve Album sale 55, lot 940

This specimen was lot 940 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "VENICE: Alvise Contarini, 1676-1684, AR scudo della croce, ND (1679-81), initials GZ, light peripheral toning, XF." This type was struck 1676-81 under four different mintmasters, whose initials (GZ = Gerolamo Zorzi in this case) can be used to date the coin. Occasionally, scudo dies were used to strike presentation pieces in gold.

Specifications: 31.82 g, 0.948 fine silver, 43-44 mm diameter, this specimen 31.51 g.
