Stack's Bowers 2026 NYINC sale, lot 43265
SB126-43265r.jpg

This specimen was lot 43265 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $9,000. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Utrecht. 1/2 Ducaton (1/2 Silver Rider), 1764. PCGS MS-63. Flowered edge. A delightful and attractive Choice example of the type. This piece is quite the stand out and will pair nicely with any full-sized Ducaton in the series." The two main varieties are KM 115.1, with a reeded edge, struck 1761-94, and KM 115.2, with a decorated edge, struck 1761-76. These features, of course, don't shown in auction lot photos. The reeded edge variety is priced slightly higher although this example realized over 22 times the catalog value. A few half ducatons were struck in gold in 1774 (KM 115.1a).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 16.39 g, 0.941 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-115.2; Delm-1055.
