Utrecht 1608 1/2 rijksdaalder
This specimen was lot 75406 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Utrecht. 1/2 Lion Daalder (Leeuwendaalder), 1608. NGC EF-40. Light circulation does not hinder original brightness in some areas, while pewter gray cabinet patina establishes originality beyond a doubt. Some planchet flaws and a crack (as made) give this lovely and RARE example character, but they hardly distract from the design. Such a difficult coin to find that anyone looking to acquire an example of the type should not miss this opportunity." This is not a half lion daalder, as catalogued by the auctioneers, but a half Nederlandse rijksdaalder.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 14.51 g, 0.885 fine silver.
Catalog reference: KM-12 (listed as a halve leeuwendaalder but a halve Nederlandse rijksdaalder is shown); Delm-878.
