Stack's Bowers November 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 78260

This specimen was lot 78260 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2025), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Utrecht. Lion Dollar (Daalder), 1606. Utrecht Mint. PCGS Genuine--Environmental Damage, EF Details. From the Richard August Collection." Lion daalders were struck in most of the provinces that today make up the Netherlands. This type is recorded in the SCWC for Utrecht for 1606-34. Other lion daalders were struck in Utrecht 1634-52 (KM 30), 1636-69 (KM 32.1), 1640-42 (KM 32.2), 1674-76 (KM 59.1), 1679-83 (KM 59.2), 1679-1700 (KM 72). Most dates are common but choice specimens are rare as striking quality was low.

Recorded mintage: unknown but not expensive in low grade.

Specification: 27.68 g, 0.750 fine silver.
