This type was struck in 1961, probably at the United States Mint, as it is the same size and weight as a Franklin half dollar. Uruguayan coinage was sporadic in the twentieth century and many issues are rare; this one is common. It honored the 150th anniversary of independence and the gaucho cowboys-turned-soldiers who made it possible.
Recorded mintage: 3,000,000.
Specification: 12.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, .361 troy oz ASW.
