This type was struck intermittently 1901-41 at various mints. This date was a product of Paris, France. Uruguayan coinage was sporadic in the twentieth century and many issues are rare; this one is common. It was replaced by a copper type of similar design issued 1944-51. Similar one and two centésimos were also issued.

Specification: 5 g, copper-nickel, 23.3 mm diameter.
