Sincona sale 90, lot 2606

This specimen was lot 2606 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 800 CHF (about US$1,057 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Uri, Halbbatzen 1811, Bern. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. FDC. (Switzerland, canton of Uri, half batzen of 1811, Bern mint. Very rare in this condition, Uncirculated.)"

This rare issue was accompanied by a rappen, one, two and four batzen, all from 1811. After being temporarily unified under Napoleon's Helvetic Republic, the cantons went their separate ways after the Congress of Vienna and issued a torrent of low value coins. Not until 1850 would a unified confederation mint her own coins and terminate the local issues.

Recorded mintage: 15,000.

Specification: billon, this specimen 1.92 g.

Catalog reference: KM 41, D.T. 78, HMZ 2-995a.
