Sincona sale 98, lot 4512

This specimen was lot 4512 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 700 CHF (about US$1,015 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Uri, Schwyz und Nidwalden, Schilling 1597, Altdorf. Die drei Wappen ohne Vierpass, das Schwyzerwappen damasziert. Seitlich der Adlerfüsse die mindere Jahreszahl 9 - 7. Rv. Fehlerhafte Umschrift mit SANCT NARTIN (sic.). Sehr selten. Schön-sehr schön. (Switzerland, cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Nidwalden, schilling of 1597, Altdorf mint. Obverse: The three coats of arms are without quatrefoils, the Schwyzer coat of arms is damasqued. The abbreviated date 9-7 appears to the side of the eagle's feet. The reverse is inscribed with SANCT NARTIN (sic.). Very rare, Fine-Very Fine.)"

Numista lists this type for 1597, 1599 and undated. Forty schilling made a thaler. The obverse legend, "VRANIE · SVIT · VND", expands to "Uraniensis Svitensis et Undervaldiensis", the three cantons responsible for the issue.
