Uri-Nidwalden 1600 groschen
This specimen was lot 5543 in Sincona Auction 102 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 2,250 CHF (about US$3,391 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ. Uri und Nidwalden. Groschen 1600, Altdorf. Jahreszahl 1600 über den Wappen von Uri und Nidwalden. Rv. Gekrönter Doppeladler mit Nimben zwischen Kreuz. Wertzahl auf der Brust. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Fast vorzüglich. Exemplar der Slg. Ch. Froidevaux, Auktion SINCONA 6, Zürich, Mai 2012, Los 2620. Exemplar der Sammlung Stuker, Auktion Münzen & Medaillen AG 79, Basel 1994, Los 750. (Switzerland, cantons of Uri and Nidwalden, groschen of 1600, Altdorf mint. Obverse: date over the arms of Uri and Nidwalden; reverse: nimbate double headed eagle, with a cross and crown between its heads, value on its breast. Very rare in this condition, About Extremely Fine.)"
Numista lists this type for 1600 only. The groschen was 1/18 thaler in the late sixteenth century, later to become 1/24 thaler.
