Sincona sale 102, lot 5545

This specimen was lot 5545 in Sincona Auction 102 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 350 CHF (about US$528 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ. Uri und Nidwalden. Schilling o. J. (1600), Altdorf. Auffliegender Doppeladler über dem Doppelwappen. Die Wappen zusammen. Rv. Der heilige Martin von vorn. Sehr schön. (Switzerland, cantons of Uri and Nidwalden, undated schilling, circa 1600, Altdorf mint. Obverse: double headed eagle over the arms of Uri and Nidwalden; reverse: St. Martin facing. Very Fine.)"

This type was struck in the first years of the seventeenth century in numerous varieties. Some are dated (1)600, some have the legend "VRANI · VNDERVAL", while others have the legend "VRANI · VNDERVALDE :", as here. One thaler was forty schilling.

Specification: 0.79-1.05 g, billon, 17-18 mm diameter, this specimen 0.80 g.
