US 1857C 5 dollars rev.jpg

The mintage in 1857 crept back up to over 31,000 this year. Although one would expect the 1857-C to be a bit more available than the 1856-C, it is actually quite a bit more available. It's still a very scarce date within the Coronet Half Eagle series, especially if one is trying to acquire an original, problem-free example. This example shows very deep, crusty green-gold surfaces.

Reported Mintage: 31,360.

Specification: 21.6 mm diameter, 8.359 g, 0.900 fine gold, .2418 troy oz AGW, reeded edge.
