Künker Auction 425, lot 1371

This specimen was lot 1371 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €3,000 (about US$4,248 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN AUS ÜBERSEE · VEREINIGTE STAATEN VON AMERIKA, Föderation. 10 Dollars 1855 O, New Orleans. Liberty. 15,05 g Feingold. Fr-156. GOLD. R Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 350, Berlin 2021, Nr. 207. (United States, ten dollars of 1855, New Orleans mint, Liberty head type. Rare, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This specimen is one of a type struck without motto at the Philadelphia 1839-66. Issues are also recorded from New Orleans (1841-60) and San Francisco (1854-66). In 1866, the motto "In God We Trust" was added to the reverse. The 1855-O eagle is uncommon and usually comes cleaned, bagmarked or weakly struck. This specimen is above average.
