United States 1847 5 dollars
This specimen was lot 5970 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €600 (about US$775 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"VEREINIGTE STAATEN VON AMERIKA, 5 Dollars 1847, Philadelphia. Liberty. 7,52 g Feingold. In US-Plastikholder der NGC mit der Bewertung AU 55 (6631516-001). GOLD. Fast vorzüglich. (United States of America, five dollars of 1847, Philadephia mint, liberty head. About extremely fine, graded NGC AU-55.)"
The Coronet Head type was produced 1840-1907, with the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" added to the reverse in 1866. This issue from Philadelphia is one of a string of common dates from that mint 1843-61. Bullion fled at the outbreak of the Civil War and high mintages did not return until the late 1870's.
