United States 1844-O 10 dollars
This specimen was lot 5966 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €1,600 (about US$2,068 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"VEREINIGTE STAATEN VON AMERIKA, 10 Dollars 1844, O, New Orleans. Liberty. 15,05 g Feingold. In US-Plastikholder der NGC mit der Bewertung XF 45 (6631517-006). GOLD. Sehr schön +. (United States of America, ten dollars of 1844, New Orleans mint, liberty head. Choice very fine, graded NGC XF-45.)"
This specimen is one of a type struck without motto at the New Orleans 1841-60. Issues are also recorded from Philadelphia (1839-66) and San Francisco (1854-66). In 1866, the motto "In God We Trust" was added to the reverse. This date is scarce tho not rare like the 1844 from Philadelphia.
