United States 1815 quarter dollar
This type, struck 1815-28 in small quantities, is somewhat available in circulated condition. The ready availability of Mexican two reales limited demand for this denomination. The 1815 is listed as a fairly common date. Despite the small mintage, it is not one of the rare dates such as 1822, 1823 or 1827. It was superseded by a slightly smaller coin (KM 55) designed to be struck on a steam press with a close collar. Due to a fire at the mint, most denominations were not struck in 1815; only the quarter, the half and the ten dollar gold piece, of which the quarter is the most affordable.
Recorded mintage: 89,235.
Specification: 6.74 g, .892 fine silver, .193 try oz ASW, 27 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by John Reich.
