Stack's Bowers 2026 NYINC sale, lot 47918

This specimen was part of lot 47918 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), which sold for $145. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Tuscany. Duo of Minor Denominations (2 Pieces), 1830 & 1846. Florence Mint. Leopold II. Grade Range: UNC to AU. 1) 5 Quattrini, 1830. 2) 3 Quattrini, 1846." This type was struck in moderate numbers 1826-40, 1843-46, 1851-54. While the SCWC does not regard this issue as rare, this is the first example we have encountered. In the 1840's, Tuscany was ruled by a Hapsburg prince, Leopold II.
