This specimen was lot 30132 in Heritage sale 3089 (Dallas, TX, January 2021), where it sold for $4,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italy. Tuscany. Ferdinando III Francescone (10 Paoli) 1815 MS64 NGC, Pisa mint. Incredibly handsome as a type, particularly with the flints of iridescent tone throughout the protected regions of the design seen here, an overall pervasive tangerine tone visible across the planchet. Entirely free of adjustment marks and the top graded specimen at NGC by a full three grade points. Ex. Grundy Collection (Heritage Auction #3004, January 2009, Lot 21782). From the Cape Coral Collection of European Crowns." The Grand Duchy of Tuscany, founded by the Medici in the early 1500's, collapsed in 1799 with the arrival of Napoleon's army. The region went thru many vicissitudes until it was annexed outright by Napoleon in 1807, only to be returned to the Hapsburgs in 1814. It was incorporated into the new kingdom of Italy in 1860. This type was struck 1814-15, 1819-20, 1824 for the restored Ferdinand III.
