Tuscany 1816 zecchino Fr-342
This specimen was lot 1295 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabruck, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,500 (about US$2,088 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIEN, TOSCANA, Ferdinando III. di Lorena, 2. Regierungszeit, 1814-1824. Zecchino 1816, Florenz. Florentiner Typ. Feingold. GOLD. Hübscher Prägeglanz, min. gewellt, fast vorzüglich. (Italy, grand duchy of Tuscany, Ferdinand III of Lorraine, second reign, 1814-24, zecchino of 1816, Florence mint, Florentine type. Handsome strike, slightly wavy, about extremely fine.)"
This ducat or zecchino or fiorino is listed in the SCWC for 1816 and 1821. The reverse features John the Baptist. In 1807, the grand duchy was annexed to France, to be returned to the Austrians in 1815.
