Künker sale 294, lot 3141

This specimen was lot 3141 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,700 (about US$2,291 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIEN, TOSCANA, Ferdinando III. di Lorena, 1. Regierungszeit, 1790-1801. Zecchino 1791, Florenz. GOLD. RR Sehr schön. (grand duchy of Tuscany, Ferdinand III of Lorraine, first reign, 1790-1801, zecchino of 1791, Florence mint. Rare, very fine.)"

This type was struck 1791-99 for Ferdinand III, who was also duke of Milan and emperor of Austria. In 1800, Tuscany was occupied by the French and not returned to Hapsburg rule until 1815.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.
