Sincona sale 26, lot 3318

This specimen was lot 3318 in Sincona sale 26 (Zürich, October 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Pietro Leopoldo di Lorena, 1765-1790 1/2 Francescone 1790. Florenz Prägung als Kaiser Leopold II. Selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Fast FDC. Feine Tönung. (Italy, grand duchy of Tuscany, Peter Leopold of Lorraine, 1765-90, half francescone of 1790, Florence mint, struck with his title of emperor. Scarce in this quality, choice uncirculated, fine toning.)"

This one year type is rare, much rarer than the accompanying one francescone (Dav-1518). Despite the "PISIS" stamped on the reverse, this coin was struck in Florence, not Pisa.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.75 g, 0.917 fine silver, .405 troy oz ASW; this specimen 13.68 g.

Catalog reference: MIR 398 (R2), KM C20.
