This specimen was lot 13256 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $2,350. The catalog description[2] noted, "ITALY. Tuscany. Francescone (10 Paoli), 1790. NGC MS-62. Pietro Leopoldo (1765-90)." This type was struck 1786-90 and is not rare in worn condition. The francescone replaced the earlier tollero in 1747 and was so named to honor Francis of Lorraine, Holy Roman Emperor and husband of Maria Theresia.
