Turkey AH 1223(24) hayriye altin
This specimen was lot 2344 in Jean Elsen sale 163 (Brussels, November 2025), where it sold for €220 (about US$254 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "OTTOMAN EMPIRE, Mahmud II (AD 1808-1839/AH 1223-1255) AV hayriye altin, AH 1223, year 24, Kostantiniye. Extremely Fine." The gold was the victim of frequent manipulation and the denominations changed names in a confusing manner. The SCWC lists zeri mahbubs, rumi altins, adli altins, yeni altins and hayriye altins for this period. This type was struck regnal years 21-28. The much scarcer KM 648 is distinguished by having stars instead of floral sprays, as here.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 1.80 g, gold, this specimen 1,79 g.
