Steve Album sale 39, lot 2386
SA39-2386r.jpg

The first specimen was lot 432 in Stephen Album sale 39 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2021), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY: Selim III, 1789-1807, AR 2 zolota (60 para), Islambul, AH1203 year 2, bold strike for this rare denomination, AU, R." The second specimen was lot 2386 in Stephen Album sale 39 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY: Selim III, 1789-1807, AR 2 zolota, Islambul, AH1203 year 2, traces of original lustre, EF, R, ex Ahmed Sultan Collection." This rare type was struck years 1, 2, 3, 9. It has a low catalog value as the bad strike and debased alloy make it unattractive to collectors. It must have been even less desirable to merchants of the period.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, 0.465 fine, 18.5-19.0 g, the first specimen 18.97 g, the second specimen 18.84 g.

Catalog reference: KM-501, Dav-1819.
