Steve Album sale 55, lot 386

This specimen was lot 386 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY: Selim III, 1789-1807, AR 2 piastres (80 para), Islambul, 1203 year 1, second toughra and the first weight standard, strong XF, R, ex Kenneth A. Bovenkamp Collection. The first toughra and a few second toughra coins, both at the heavy weight inherited from Abdul Hamid I, were struck briefly during Selim's first year, with the reduced standard introduced later in the same regnal year, also with the second toughra." The light version, which was struck for the remainder of Selim's reign, we show here: KM 504.

Specifications: 29.85 g, 0.465 fine silver, 43-44 mm diameter, this specimen is 30.02 g.
