This specimen was lot 39767 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY. Ottoman Empire. Piastre, AH 1187 Year 12 (1785). Istanbul (Constantinople) Mint. Abdul Hamid I. PCGS MS-61." This specimen is from a series struck in Istanbul during the reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid I (r. 1774-1789). This type was struck years 8 thru 16 and has a low catalog value. Most survivors are poorly struck and harshly cleaned and have little charm.
