Turkey AH 1171(83) 20 para
This specimen was lot 2247 in Stephen Album sale 38 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY: Mustafa III, 1757-1774, AR 20 para, Islambul, AH(11)83, tiny scratch in reverse field, lovely strike, choice EF." Turkish issues before the reform of 1839 are a mess of constantly changing denominations as the government attempted to debase its way out of perpetual bankruptcy. Three types of twenty para are listed for this reign: rosette right of toughra (KM 312, years 3 and 4); without rosette (KM 313.1, years 5, 6, 7) and dual dated (KM 313.2, AH 1182 thru AH 1187). All are scarce, especially in nice condition.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specifications: billon, 8.0-9.5 g; this specimen 9.46 g.
Catalog reference: KM 313.2.
