Turkey AH 1171(84) 1/2 zeri mahbub
This specimen was lot 3721 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 2,600 CHF (about US$3,480 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY, 1/2 Zer-i mahbûb 1184 H., Islambul (Istanbul). NGC MS66. Prachtexemplar. Das durch NGC höchstbewertete Exemplar (half zeri mahbub of AH 1184, Istanbul mint. Cabinet piece, Finest certified by NGC)." Turkish issues before the reform of 1839 are a mess of constantly changing denominations as the government attempted to debase its way out of perpetual bankruptcy. This type was struck AH 1180-1187. An earlier half zeri mahbub (KM 327) used regnal dates (years 1-8).
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 1.3 g, gold, this specimen 1.30 g.
