Sincona sale 11, lot 3397

This specimen was lot 3397 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"TÜRKEI Mahmud II. 1808-1839. 1/4 Zeri mahbub 1809. Gutes sehr schön. (Turkey, Mahmud II, 1808-39, quarter zeri mahbub of 1809 (AH 1223, year 2), good very fine.)"

This type was issued during years 1-5 of Mahmud's reign. It is hammered, as milled coinage was not introduced until 1839.

Specification: .70-.80 g, gold, this specimen .65 g.
