Turkey 1947 500 kurush Fr-218
This specimen was lot 6275 in Künker sale 336 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €1,900 (about US$2,486 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"TÜRKEI, Republik seit 1923. 500 Piaster 1947. Luxusprägung. 32,16 g Feingold. GOLD. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (republic of Turkey, 500 kurush of 1947, monnaie de luxe. Extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This type was minted 1943-49 to the standard of the old Ottoman 500 kurush monnaie de luxe. Most of these were minted with the portrait of Ataturk (KM 874) but a few were made with Ismet Inonu's bust, as here.
Recorded mintage: 3,699 (including KM 874 with Ataturk).
