This specimen was lot 3960 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 1,425 (about US$1,878 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"500 Piaster 1928. Selten. Sehr schön. (Turkey, five hundred piastres of 1928, rare, very fine.)"
Altho issued in the name of Ataturk's republic, this five hundred kurush matches the old Ottoman five hundred kurush (KM 823) in weight and style. It was issued in small numbers 1925-29. No gold coins have been issued for circulation since.
