This specimen was lot 33705 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY. 250 Kurush, 1923 Year 20 (1943). Ankara Mint. NGC MS-61. A less-often encountered type, especially in Mint State grades. Bested by a single example in the NGC census in MS-63." This type was struck years 20, 23 and 24 with the head of Inonu, who succeeded as president of Turkey after Ataturk's death. Ataturk's bust was used on KM 857, another 250 kurush of year 20. The calendar dates from the founding of the republic in 1923.
