Sincona sale 31, lot 361

This specimen was lot 361 in Sincona sale 31 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 2,000 CHF (about US$2,374 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted, "REPUBLIC OF TUNISIA, 100 dinars 1996ce/1417ah AU RRR Pf." This type commemorated the ninth anniversary of the overthrow of the senile Habib Bourgiba in 1987. It is unlikely to have circulated beyond the president's circle of cronies and supporters. It is rare.

Recorded mintage: 300 proofs.

Specification: 38 g, 0.900 fine gold, 1.092 troy oz AGW, this specimen 37.96 g.
