Sincona Auction 103, lot 720

This specimen was lot 720 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$381 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"LIECHTENSTEIN Karl, 1585-1627. 3 Kreuzer 1614, Troppau. Mit dem Herzogstitel von Troppau. Münzmeister Burkhard Haase. Fast vorzüglich. Flaue Stellen. (duchy of Troppau-Jägerndorf, Charles of Liechtenstein, 1585-1627, three kreuzer of 1614, Troppau mint, struck in the name of the duke of Troppau. About Extremely Fine, Some weakly struck areas.)"

Jägerndorf, along with Troppau, was in the uppermost (southern) part of Silesia, a province under Austrian rule 1526-1740. Most of Silesia was seized and annexed by Frederick the Great in the Seven Years War but Troppau and Jägerndorf remained Austrian and are now Czech instead of Polish. This type, listed for 1614, is rare like most of the coinage of this locality. Other three kreuzer for 1614 include KM 1 (ornate arms reverse) and KM 2 (eagle reverse). The cataloguers at Sincona likely listed this coin under Liechtenstein to appeal to Swiss bidders.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.65-1.80 g, silver, 21 mm diameter, this specimen 1.72 g.

Catalog reference: KM 3, Divo 31. HMZ 2-1359a.
